Video Based Therapy
Why might Video Based Therapy be right for you?
Removing barriers:
For many people, the thought of starting therapy or speaking to a therapist is very daunting, let alone going into a therapists’ office or clinic. Video Therapy removes that barrier allowing you to access therapy from the comfort of your own home with only a few clicks away.
Comfort:
Therapy can be challenging but rewarding. In our sessions we may be discussing some difficult and personal topics. Being in your own surroundings with your own comforts can make a big difference. Instead of walking or driving home after a session you can get up and make a cup of tea and take the time for you.Accessibility:
Finding the time to come to therapy can be very challenging for many families. Being able to join our session from where you are means we can work our appointment times around you. No need to travel to a clinic and find parking; whether you’re at home, school, university or work, we can find the right time for you.
Digital creativity:
In our sessions we can use online tools to aid your therapeutic experience. This can include sharing YouTube videos, worksheets that we can complete together, information and reading which can be sent directly to you and using a whiteboard tool to map things out together.
It works:
Research has shown us that compared to people accessing therapy in person, the outcomes from therapy are the same.
Setting it up right…
Video Based Therapy can be a wonderful way to access help and support. To make the most of your experience it’s helpful to consider a few things:
The size of your screen:
Building a relationship and making our sessions meaningful can be enhanced when we are able to see and speak to each other on full sized screens. We have found that using a laptop, monitor, or tablet can help you feel more comfortable and safe when working with us.Privacy:
Therapy can be a personal and vulnerable experience. Making sure you or your child has the privacy to access their video session can help them to feel safe enough to open up.Safety:
Our number one job is to make sure that you and other people are safe. This means that we might ask if family members are near by and ask where you are accessing our session from. Should we become worried about your safety in a session, it means we can get you help as soon as possible.
